The assignment

Popoff was directly engaged to organize and deliver interpretation throughout the Brasília portion of the European Parliament Delegation for Relations with Brazil’s mission of 6–8 May 2026.

The delegation included parliamentary representatives with responsibilities relating to Brazil, Mercosur, foreign affairs and international trade. Its Brasília agenda brought European representatives into discussions with Brazilian parliamentary and executive authorities.

A multilingual and mobile programme

Bidirectional Portuguese–English and Portuguese–French interpretation was provided by two interpreters for each language combination. Different delegates relied on different language channels, so terminology, team coordination and technical delivery had to remain aligned across both combinations.

Booth-based simultaneous interpretation was used at the Ministry of Agriculture. Portable systems supported smaller meetings with individual authorities, including meetings at the Federal Senate and with the Vice-President of Brazil.

Technical coordination

Popoff coordinated the complete interpreter team, supplied the fixed and portable interpretation equipment, organized setup and testing, and managed the change between technical configurations at different venues.

The portable configuration also needed to accommodate relay between language channels. This allowed multilingual communication to continue in meeting rooms where a full two-booth installation was neither available nor proportionate.

Preparation and outcome

Preparation was based on the participant list and meeting agendas, supported by a shared multilingual glossary. Particular attention was given to the EU–Mercosur agreement, agricultural concerns associated with the free-trade framework and the institutional terminology required for parliamentary and diplomatic discussions.

The delegation completed its Brasília programme with continuous support in English, French and Portuguese. Interpretation remained consistent across formal conference rooms and smaller meetings, and the client expressed satisfaction with both the linguistic and technical delivery.
